ParaWallets: The Wallet that could save your life

The ParaWallet was born out of the idea that if credit card survival tools exist, the perfect wallet to carry them in should also exist. If there is one thing most people are likely to always have with them it is their wallet, and the Pheonix, Arizona based team behind ParaWallets, seek to make the perfect survival wallet a reality. This means adventurers, outdoor enthusiasts or those who are just plain paranoid can always have an emergency survival kit in their pocket, without even having to think about it.

 About the ParaWallet

Parawallets are made from 50 feet of 550lb 7-strand parachute cord with a ferrocerium fire starter rod built in. Now, if that means something to you, you are probably far more qualified than me to own this wallet. For the rest of us who aren't so versed on survival equipment, Paracord is an incredibly strong, lightweight and versatile material originally used in the suspension lines of parachutes, which has a huge variety of uses, including the 20 examples illustrated below. We think number 20 might be a little far-fetched, but you'd be kicking yourself if your pet zombie chews through your below par string leash!

Paracord isn't the only survival element of this wallet though, it also contains all the elements needed to start a fire in in emergency. There is a steel rod which also acts as the center of the wallet, a steel emblem which doubles up as the decorative element and customisable logo on the front of the wallet and tinder which is cleverly concealed inside the label, which itself is hidden away inside the wallet.

Because the actual wallet itself is made from the Paracord, you might be thinking that if you ever did actually have to use it, that's the end of your wallet, and you would be right in thinking that. However, the ParaWallet team are offering a lifetime repair guarantee in the instance you actually have to use it in a survival situation. After all, the thing about this wallet is that as a general rule, you probably hope you never really need to use it, but if you ever do have to, you'll be more than glad to have it.

There isn't too much detail in the way of the exact size of the wallet yet, but they have specified that there will be an international size available to accommodate the slightly larger notes in countries like the UK. 

What we do know for sure though is that there will be two card pockets, one on each side of the inside of the wallet, as well as a cash slot for notes behind the card pockets. It's unclear exactly how many cards each slot can hold, but we'd guess that 3 at least should be comfortable. This design means that the ParaWallet is not only about having your back in an emergency, but it is also a practical solution for day to day use.

In terms of appearance, the ParaWallet doesn't just come in a few set colour options, instead you can choose the exact colours you want for each element using their Color Crafter Tool. With 72 different solid colours available to choose from (there are also a whole load of camouflage colours to be added soon), and 3 sections to customise (The outside horizontal weave, outside horizontal weave and the inside), that is a lot of options. In fact, if my maths is any good (and there are no promises there), that is a whopping 1,656,360 possible unique colour combinations available just from the solid colour options. As a man who struggles to decide what sandwich he wants from Subway, that choice could take some time...

The design of the wallet is kept simple, but is very unique and appealing. The only decoration on the outside comes in the form of the fire emblem, which is weaved into the Paracord, and can be customised with initials (Kickstarter version only). The rest of the wallet simply allows the Paracord to do the talking, and after spending some time (if I'm honest, far too much time) playing around with the Color Crafter, there are definitely some very good looking designs to be had here. In fact, because of the bold colours and simple design, it is almost hard to find a colour combination of the ParaWallet that doesn't look good!
